So, I just got back from WWRY with Carly, Aliisa, Jen, and Anna, and it was fabuloussssss.
Normally I don't do these kinds of posts, but tonight was so amazing, I repeat, AMAZING, that I need to. Seriously, AMAZINGGGGGGGG.
So the show itself? 8 kinds of fabulous. We were FRONT row, in the perfect seats, so that added to it. It was especially cool because we could see every expression on their faces, every bead of sweat. The actors always look like they're having TONS of fun, and they must be. They were awesome. As anyone who's seen the show with me knows, I have a fascination with a girl in the emsemble. Since the first time I saw the show, I've always watched her whenever she's onstage, often ignoring the leads. Well, I was determined to figure out her name(I suck at connecting a face onstage to a face in the programme). So, I knew she was the green ga-ga girl, and where she ends up standing/posing at the end of most songs. So through this, Carly told me her name is Lindsay Croxall. Awesomeness, :D
So after the show, at the stagedoor, there was a commotion and Alana was reading off a list of names for a backstage tour. I didn't think I was going to be on it, but it turns out if you were part of the facebook event, you were, so I was, :D Funny thing was though, I had NO idea it was even happening. I just assumed the event was just that, seeing the show, stagedooring, the end. But Sterling explained that the facebook groups have given the show SO much popularity and publicity, they wanted to do something to show their appreciation.
Sadly Aliisa and Carly weren't on the list, which was really sucky, it would have been way cooler with them there too, but I hope this description will suffice.
They separated us into groups of five(I was in the last group, which ended up only being four) and each group was led by a different cast member. Val wound up being left over, so she got lumped in with our group, which Alana was leading. We walked into the dressing room area, and they showed us the halls where the dressing rooms for the two sexes were. They had a contest for the most creatively decorated door, and they looked CRAZY. I forget who won, but I think it was four of the ensemble girls. Not Lindsay's group though :( All over the walls there were posters, notices, and other stuff. By looking at them, I learned that they have a cast and crew-wide charity raffle each month, led by Val. How sweet????
They led us over to the area where the stairs up to backstage was, and we got to see the area where the sound people sit, and where the stage manager calls everything. They took us to the area below the stage where the offstage singing is mic'd. I bombarded them with technical questions at this point, like, Do they have to adjust the mic volume or bass according to the actor's voice? (answer: They figured that all out before the show opened, and everyone has a specific place they have to stand, different distances away from the mic, so adjustments aren't needed.) We got to see where Evan and Alana do their "emails" every night. They do them live, as Alana confirmed, and Val got really red and embarassed when she accidently called the area "Alana's box". Insert own joke. Also insert more technical questions from me regarding things like timing, sound cues, and audio work. Insert Alana being really confused and referring me to the stage manager.
We got to check out the props area, and then to stage itself. Val tried to sound like she knew how everything worked, but soon gave up and turned that stuff over to someone from backstage. One of the girls in my group really wanted to touch the fragments of rock that fall when the guitar comes out of the wall, but even though Alana and Val were all for it, the stage manager had a conniption. They're made of styrofoam though, she told us. The stage manager was really high strung, like she'd had about 30 red bulls and too much sugar. She laughed like a hyena at a lot of things that weren't funny, or that were just.... random?
Val also pointed out how sucky it is for ensemble girls to have to run down the backstage stairs in the heels from their chairperson costumes. And a lot of the ledges had signs hanging from them that said "WATCH SKULL HERE(This means you, Alana!)" or "Alana, your big hair will not fit under here!". Love it.
After all that, we were back by the dressing rooms, and I was standing outside one, biting my nails, when who should emerge but? Lindsay Croxall! So I did a little squee inside and then turned to her(she was staring at Sterling as he talked to his group) and was like "excuse me? I'm sorry, but I just wanted to say that you're my favourite ensemble member. Ever since the first time I saw the show, there's been something about you that really draws me. You've got a great presence." and she FREAKED. Seriously, SO cute. She was like "me? Lindsay? REALLY? Oh my GOSH, really? Really? WOW that makes my NIGHT. Wow, Oh my gosh! Thank you....." and in the middle of her sentence, my group moved, and I got pushed away from her. She was still talking to me, and all of a sudden she goes "Waaaait! I don't even know your name!". I tried to call it back to her, but I wasn't loud enough. A minute later she shoved her way to where I was standing and started again "Oh my GOSH, are you serious though? Really really? Oh my gosh I have a FAN. That makes my NIGHT! But I don't know your name! What is it?" And when I said Georgia, she went a little more nuts. "REALLY? My best friend's name is Georgia, HOW COOL?????? And my boyfriend's sister's name is Georgia! This is cool!" and such. Officially the cutest person of my life.
After her, Yvan came by, and I told him "You rock. Seriously, you're like, made of awesome." He looked at me quizically and kind of cocked his head and then goes "made of awesome? What does this mean?" and I had to explain that it means "You're fantastic, amazingly talented, and I think you rock." And he smiled and got happy, and it was cute, then he got distracted and wandered.
Sterling was starting to help get everyone on their way, so I asked him if I could wait for Erica, since I wanted to ask her for an interview for a school assignment. He was like "Sure! What's the assignment?" and I explained that you have to choose a local theatre artist whose work you admire, and he was like "Ooh, wow that's cool! Well, Erica loves her fans a lot, so I'm sure she'll have no problem doing it, but if she can't, I will. Is that okay with you? I mean... If it's not that's fine, Alana could do it too, but.... The offer's there!" I told him that would be FANTASTIC, and then we all wandered out, because we were assured everyone else would follow. Erica came out a few minutes later, and I asked her. She said she'd love to, and to just call the publicist, who'd set us up something, and she gave me a hug and giggled really cutely. Sterling cam eout a moment later and came over to ask what she said. When I said she said yes, he said "Oh okay, well I'm glad you got her!" I figured, I was planning to do two people anyway, so I asked him, if it was okay with him, if I could inteview him too? And he was really happy and said he totally would love it. So if it all works out, I'll get to talk to both of them! I may see if I can talk to Lindsay too, just out of interest and as an interesting side bit. They all seem so interesting!
Alana was super-sweet too, and gave lots of hugs. She kept blushing and lowering her head when someone told her she was great or inspirational or something. Sterling also told me that if I was interested in doing carpentry(another talent of mine) for a show like this, I should ask the local union for an internship. Cool beans. I'll look into it.
Pretty much, AWESOMENESS. Everyone rocked, and the tour was fantastic. The cast is really sweet, and SO gracious.
Go see the showwwwww.
